Looks like I've got strep now. It's getting passed through the family. Families share a lot of things, don't they? My twelve and ten year-olds would rather not be on the same planet as each other, let alone share anything. Mothers love to share with their kids. They look forward to sharing with their kids from the time they are a little girl. Fathers, I'm not so sure. Fathers seem to be big kids. Our kids Dad came from a big family, and he still craves his own space and things. We all need our own space. Heck, sometimes I lock myself in the bathroom just to breathe my own air. I treasure the time when I can go downstairs to our bedroom alone. Our room is the only bedroom in the basement. I even get a warning from the creaky stairs when someone is coming to find me.
We share food. My ten year old bought his own box of crackers yesterday, and I noticed it in the cupboard this morning. I thought, "Wow, he's daring to leave this out in public". But there's some smarts to that though. Everyone knows whose it is, and everyone's around to see if someone takes a cracker or two. Sarah, 10, keeps her snacks in her room. She bought her own bag of pretzels, and kept them in there on her dresser for weeks. The toddlers would sneak a piece or two every chance they could.
Megan just shared her pottery paint with the toddlers. She's at school and doesn't know about it, but nonetheless, 'sharing', right? Poor kids. A hard lesson learned.
So, we share germs, we share food, and we share 'paint'. And this teaches them real life skills, right? And builds their immune system!

I remember that paint sort of "sharing." It was my fingernail polish I "shared," from a closed drawer in my dresser, from behind a closed bedroom door. My little sister got in there while I was at school, and *I* got in trouble for leaving it where she could get it. Yeah. There's definitely sharing and then sharing.
Loved this post! Glad to know I am not the only mom who has to escape to breath my own air :-)
